Punting Competition
Sam Loy (Santa Margarita), who holds offers from both Army and Navy, won the Punting Competition with a tremendous display of consistency in both distance and hang time. Loy was challenged in each of his elimination matches, but was able to better each opponent when the pressure was on. Loy is now eligible to be nominated for the WCKA Hall of Fame once he graduates High School.
After charting as the #1 seed after the preliminaries, Loy knocked off Chase McGrath (Mater Dei), who hit some big time punts and is poised to be one of the better 2017 combo guys this Fall. In the Semi Final, Kevin Neitzke (Valenica) put some pressure on with a couple beauties, but Loy was up the challenge advancing to the final against the #2 seed Daniel Bjurman (OCC). Bjurman did his best to claim the title but Loy launched a 60 yard 4.6 hang time punt to capture the title!
Bjurman knocked off his former teammate Jason Neiger (CDM) in the other Semi Final. Neiger is poised to have a great senior season as both a kicker and punter. The strong legged Bjurman was the #2 Seed after charting on Punts and the #3 Seed in the FG competition after the group stage.
Mr. Consistent:
Eli Deeb (Mater Dei) was the #3 Seed after charting on Punts and the #4 Seed in the FG competition after the group stage.
